My poor little girl is once again on antibiotics. I just feel so bad for her. Thursday night we had a rough night. She woke up at 1:30am and did not want to go back to sleep. I figured it was probably because she was teething because the last couple of days she has been chewing on everything. Well Friday morning she seemed to be doing fine besides a little tried and cranky but that is expected since she was up all night. By late afternoon she started to get a fever. I gave her Tylenol and it went down and she seemed to be doing much better until after 5:00pm when all doctor offices close. From here on out things only got worse. Her fever even with medicine wouldn't go down passed 100. By this time she started to get really cranky and just wanted to be held. While I was holding her I noticed that she had fluid draining out of her left ear. I felt so bad for just assuming that it was her teeth and not taking her into the doctor. It was so weird because normally when she gets ear infections she has a cold, which she hasn't even been sick. I thought it was going to be a very long night, but thanks to her wonderful dad and the power of a priesthood blessing we were all able to get some sleep. In the morning I called her doctor's office, who thank goodness is open for three hours on Saturday, and made an appointment. I took her in to discover that she had double ear infections and that her left eardrum ruptured and that's what all the drainage was from. He said that it wasn't a virus ear infection (the one you normally get with a cold) that is was more of a bacterial virus. He said that what most likely happened was that when she had her virus ear infection a little over a month ago and was put on a cheaper antibiotic that it didn't quite clear it up all the way and that over the month the bacterial had continued to grow. He said that Mckenzie must be one tough girl because most kids would have been fussy way before the eardrum ruptured, but she's been just as happy as can be besides the last two days. She was even smiling at the doctors office at everyone. Anyways he put her on a special antibiotics for ear infections and special ear drops to help with the drainage and soreness. We are hoping and praying that this time the medicine does the trick and that there is no permanent hearing loss.
Poor little girl. I hope she get's feeling better soon!!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to be a mom. Always second guessing yourself! I do it all the time. Glad you were able to get the help she needed!
ReplyDeleteOh, I HATE when they don't feel good! Dallin did the same thing a couple years ago. He woke-up one night and said something about his ear hurting and went back to sleep. The next morning because of a fever we took him in and the doc couldn't believe he wasn't just crying in pain. We must have some tough Jacobson babies!:) Hopefully in a few days she will be good to go!
